Kickstarter Round-up: Top Tarot & Oracle Deck Picks for October 5, 2018

Happy Friday, Tarot Geeks!

Here’s this week’s Top 5 Tarot & Oracle decks available for crowdfunding on Kickstarter. I will share links to each deck along with why I believe they are worth considering.

First, for those who are not familiar with the platform…

How Kickstarter works

Crowdfunding is where you and others “invest” your money in an artist’s project. Most creators will provide rewards in return for different pledge levels, which gives the impression that you are purchasing a product by backing said project. At its core, crowdfunding platforms like Kickstarter are a marketplace for venture capitalism, but instead of owning a share of the company or creative work you are promised a product upon the project’s completion.

Most projects will have a goal that is the minimum amount needed to complete the project (operational and production costs, and hopefully enough left over to pay their food and electric bills). Some projects will include stretch goals where the final product can be enhanced based on additional funds raised.

Want to back a project but don’t have the $$$ right now? No problem! You are not charged during the pledge period, and can change your pledge amount up until the pledge period ends. Your credit/bank card is charged once the funding period is over.  I typically pledge my support early in the funding campaign, and make final adjustments during the last few days (when I have a better understanding of my budget).

Disclaimer: This is not an endorsement of any of the decks listed. Please review the project’s description, including the Risks and Challenges section, before you back it. Click here to learn more about accountability on Kickstarter.

Geek Girl Tarot’s Kickstarter Picks

#5 The Simple Tarot Deck by Angie Green

Pledge period ends October 31, 2018 at 11:59pm CDT

The Simple Tarot Deck is a Rider-Waite based deck geared towards beginners. The creator used line-art illustrations with human figures drawn in silhouette. The Major Arcana cards have a white background while the Minor Aracana are color-coded based on suit. The Simple Tarot comes in two variations: “Beginner Cards” with keyword prompts and a gradient card back so that readers can determine whether they want to turn the card upright, and “Classic Cards” which omit the keywords and have a symmetrically-patterned card back.

The campaign includes a variety of rewards, with deck available at the $49 pledge level.

#4 The Dreamer’s Arcana by Rituals and Alchemy

Pledge period ends October 31, 2018 at 11:00pm CDT

The Dreamer’s Arcana is a 22-card numberless, wordless deck that follows the overall themes of the Major Arcana while taking a more contemporary take on the Tarot. Each card is a work of digital art, full of detail and symbolism. The deck is fantasy-themed with mermaids, elves, and other fantasy creatures.

The campaign includes a variety of rewards, with deck available at the AU $35 (~$25 USD) pledge level.

#3 Queer Arcana by Ian Menard

Pledge period ends October 31, 2018 at 4:06am CDT

This project is an anthology of cautionary tales about unhealthy relationships. The creator based each story on one of the cards of the Major Arcana. The neat thing about this project is that it is a collaborative work of queer artists from a variety of backgrounds. Ian, the project’s creator, explains:

“It was also really important to me for all the creators to be queer in some way. So I put out the call, and truly incredible artists responded. Men, women, and non-binary folks. People from all across the world. It has been an honor to receive work from them and discuss the project with them. “

The campaign includes a variety of rewards, with the deck available at the $25 pledge level.

#2 Greater Hand Oracle Deck by Yes Thanks

Pledge period ends October 26, 2018 at 10:22am CDT

The Greater Hand Oracle uses bright colors and minimalist line art to convey powerful messages. This vibrant, 25-card deck takes a lighthearted approach to providing insight from the cosmos and one’s subconscious. The creator intended for this deck to not only work in ceremonial-style readings, but also casual situations where the reader may want to pull cards during everyday moments such as during a bus ride or study break.

This campaign includes a variety of rewards, with the deck available at the $20 pledge level.

#1 The Oceanic Wild Oracle by Tiffany Sosa

Pledge period ends October 30, 2018 at 10:52am CDT

The Oceanic Wild is a whimsical, mermaid-themed oracle deck. The artwork on the cards is hand-drawn and explores the magic and mysteries of the aquatic world from the mermaid’s point of view. The deck was created to be a tool for tapping one’s subconscious, and pairs well with activities such as meditation and daily draws. The card backing is vibrant and reminds me of the look of the ocean waves hitting a sunlit beach.

This campaign includes a variety of rewards, with the deck available at the $26 pledge level.

Looking forward to sharing more Tarot & Oracle Kickstarter goodness with you in a week!
